Country Park
Project Description
In the heart of Country Park, a three-bedroom apartment—once well-worn and deeply loved—has been reawakened through a bold and deliberate act of design by Arjan Nijen Twilhaar, Principal Interior Designer of Aiden T.
After over two decades in the same home, the owners stood at a fork in the road: relocate or redefine. With its enviable location and the soaring cost of moving, they chose instead to rewrite the narrative of their space—to honour its past while carving out a future that reflects who they’ve become.
The layout was the first to fall away. In its place: a flipped floor plan that liberates the primary suite, gifts the bathroom a sense of ease and volume, and encloses the kitchen in a tailored, purposeful gesture. Flow was not sacrificed—it was refined. Storage expanded, sightlines considered, proportions calibrated.
Materiality takes centre stage in this home. With beloved pets in the picture, every surface is chosen with intent. Rugs are minimal, and floor finishes were reimagined as part of a choreographed tension: a dark wood tile, laid boldly across the hallway and nudging into the living space, meets a lighter, natural tile that extends back into the corridor—a visual push and pull that animates the floorscape.
The palette is intentionally quiet—sandy neutrals whisper beside grounding chocolate browns, while furniture and curated accents layer on warmth and personality. Warm terracotta stone panels nod subtly to the earth, anchoring the emotional temperature of the space.
Whimsy finds its footing through sculptural gestures. A pebble-shaped dining table dances with blocky cube chairs. Above, a striking hand-forged pendant light—sourced from the Netherlands and fitted with hand-blown glass—cascades like a modern relic. In the living room, a cluster of coffee tables—each distinct in form and finish—creates a vignette of functional artistry.
Custom upholstery, designed to endure paws and play, was thoughtfully specified and scaled for comfort. Throughout the home, walls are cloaked in a delicate lime wash—breathable and matte—while fluted panels flirt with sunlight and shadow in rhythmic silence. Frameless plaster-finished doors dissolve into the architecture, letting surfaces and art take the spotlight.
In the kitchen, black-stained carcasses are clad in aged copper doors, playing against the depth of a textured black countertop. The walls remain minimal, while a backsplash inset with hand-painted tiles—collected on travels—adds intimacy and a narrative fingerprint.
The reimagined primary suite now flows like a private sanctuary. A reed-glass partition teases apart the functions of dressing and dreaming, revealing a generous walk-in wardrobe crowned by a central island, and a bedroom softened by layered textures and a mixed-material custom headboard.
In the primary bathroom, bold natural tiles meet fibreglass walls with quiet confidence. A double vanity and a dedicated wet area deliver both function and flow, while the restrained colour story is enlivened by nuanced surfaces and high-calibre fittings.
Even the powder room speaks in a strong accent: sculptural faucet, integrated sink, textured tile—a jewel box of tactility and tone.
Completed in late 2024, this reimagined apartment stands as a study in how constraint births creativity. It’s a home with history, now recast in rich, thoughtful detail—a canvas of form, mood, and material mastery.

Four Seasons
Infused with theatrical charm and Parisian allure, Joie de Vivre at Orchard Road is a vivid tapestry of storybook design—where Josephine Baker meets Art Deco glamour, and flapper-era opulence finds new footing in modern Singapore. Designed by Arjan Nijen Twilhaar of Aiden T, this Orchard Road apartment is both a stage and a sanctuary, layered with rich visual rhythm and sensorial delight.
From the very first step, drama is dialed up to delicious effect. A reimagined foyer, encircled by curving oval walls, welcomes with moody, dark-painted surfaces and bold checkerboard flooring. The tone is confident—more theatre foyer than entry hall. Here, texture and geometry become storytellers. Adjacent to the entrance, a jewel-box powder room and concealed storage are seamlessly tucked away, setting a tone of function clad in fantasy.
The corridor unfolds into a decadent bar area—a bespoke enclave for pre-dinner cocktails and revelry. Gothic-inspired carpentry in a daring cobalt blue anchors the space, while custom tiles connect the area visually to the entry. A stained-glass decal inset into the bar cabinet adds a whisper of medieval romance, refracted in soft light.
In the dining area, the atmosphere softens. The palette cools, the mood shifts. A stacked ceiling adds architectural lift, while silk wall hangings drape the room in quiet luxury, their softness offset by crisp wainscotting below. At the centre, a radiant, custom-designed sunburst carpet acts as both artwork and anchor.
The family room takes a moodier turn—moody but never melancholic. The spark? A wallpaper named Martini Cat. This cheeky motif informs a jewel-toned palette and a lounge-like sensibility. Wall panelling, echoing treatments from the dining room, continues the narrative of a home journeying through decades of design influence—fluid, referential, alive.
The kitchen is a playful study in contrast. Bold canary yellow meets serene ivory. Art Deco patterns, bespoke hood detailing, and whimsical wallpaper line the room with personality. French doors—custom cut, skyscraper-slim—punctuate the space, ushering in light and layering in more Deco geometry. Every corner is considered: a hidden pantry, appliance bay, and clever cabinetry ensure practicality never overshadows charm.
The primary suite is a retreat of refined softness. Walls are dressed in a trio of muted hues, wrapped in classic French detailing. A clawfoot tub—set against a striking wallpaper backdrop—becomes the focal point of a bathroom defined by vintage patina. Worn marble floors and traditional panelling lend weight and history, while a study nook with a playful wallpaper and upholstered walls introduces light-heartedness and balance.
Throughout the home, wallpapers become visual poetry. From Martini Cat to rich damasks, every wall whispers a different stanza. Jewel tones, aged finishes, and Deco flourishes dance across each room in a curated crescendo.
Joie de Vivre isn’t just a home—it’s a curated reverie. A multi-era love letter where every tile, trim, and textile plays its part in a visual sonata of pleasure, nostalgia, and playful sophistication. This is Orchard Road, seen through a cinematic lens—bold, expressive, and endlessly alive.

Kingsford Waterbay
At Kingsford Waterbay, a compact 700-square-foot apartment is transformed into a moody modern sanctuary—where scale meets sophistication, and every square metre is layered with intent. Designed by Eileen Teo of Aiden T, this two-bedroom resale unit in Kovan defies its footprint through bold material juxtapositions, hidden function, and tactile storytelling.
From the moment one steps into the foyer, the tone is set: dark stucco walls embrace like velvet dusk, while a patterned tile mosaic underfoot introduces rhythm and flair. A sculptural heron light adds an unexpected wink of whimsy, foreshadowing the apartment’s masterful play between mood and delight. Storage is seamlessly integrated, ensuring the home remains calm, collected, and quietly luxurious.
The living area anchors the design narrative—moody, layered, and sensual. Walls painted in a rich, velvety blue cocoon the space, lending it a hushed elegance. Subtle metallics shimmer across surfaces, catching the light just enough to suggest movement. A bespoke feature wall conceals generous storage and even a secret door, blurring the boundaries between architecture and art. It not only solves for clutter but introduces an element of surprise—design as intrigue.
In the adjoining kitchen, glamour meets function. Brushed metallic gold cabinetry bounces ambient light back into the naturally shaded space, marrying boldness with utility. Every inch is optimized: hidden compartments cradle appliances, pull-out systems keep clutter at bay, and a dedicated slot allows a robot vacuum to operate invisibly. Every surface, from base drawers to wall panels, is part of a quiet choreography of utility and refinement.
Where the living area contracts, the balcony expands—an open-air counterpoint that brings the outside in. Overlooking the river and lush greenery, the balcony was designed as an Oriental-inspired escape, anchored by soft taupes and earthy neutrals. A height-adjustable table transforms the area from lounge to dining, while wallpaper-lined walls add a touch of poetic flair. Here, the boundaries between interior and exterior dissolve into a quiet conversation between light, air, and mood.
Even the walkway—a transitional space often forgotten—becomes a theatrical moment. Step through a concealed door and find yourself immersed in an Adam-and-Eve inspired wallpaper tableau. The pattern, in black, gold, and white, wraps the walls, doors, and ceiling in a seamless skin of narrative and texture. Brass handles glint against deep blue panels, echoing the palette of the living room and elevating this corridor into a design destination in its own right.
Two bedrooms were merged into one serene principal suite—a sanctuary of softness. In contrast to the living area’s boldness, the bedroom whispers in pale taupes, gentle greys, and lime-washed pearl walls. A dark, textured wallpaper behind the bed nods to the apartment’s moodier spaces, creating visual continuity while introducing luxurious contrast. The custom headboard and side tables mirror the wallpaper, grounding the bed in tactile richness.
A central cabinet island, finished in calming taupe, doubles as a display for the owner’s collection of watches and bags—part gallery, part storage. The carpentry echoes the profiles in the kitchen, maintaining a thread of visual rhythm throughout the home.
In the bathroom, porcelain tiles mimic natural stone, wrapping walls and floors in quiet opulence. A brushed silver vanity topped with black granite anchors the space, while brass and matte black fixtures layer in contrast and clarity. It’s a space designed not just for function, but for ritual.
Completed in September 2023, Kingsford Waterbay is more than a renovation—it is a case study in how good design transcends size. Every line is considered. Every surface tells a story. In this home, elegance lives in the shadows, and luxury reveals itself not in size, but in every curated detail.

North Bridge
At North Bridge Road, the past and present entwine in an expressive renovation that transforms a once-modest HDB point block into an Indochine-inspired sanctuary. Designed by Arjan Nijen Twilhaar of Aiden T, this five-room resale flat is a masterclass in curated eclecticism—where French Colonial charm dances with South Asian soul.
Walls were stripped, lines redrawn. The home was reimagined not as a compartmentalized dwelling but as a fluid, open-plan landscape for living, gathering, and storytelling. Instead of concealing the bones of the structure—beams, columns, recesses—Aiden T celebrated them. These architectural elements became anchors in the new narrative, shaping zones with sculptural clarity.
Low-hanging beams were softened with mirror-lined transoms, expanding sightlines and injecting unexpected reflection into the ceiling plane. Arches—iconic of Indochine design—demarcate spaces like visual commas in a long, luxurious sentence. Below, contrast tile borders draw boundaries with rhythm and grace, leading the eye while guiding the foot.
The journey begins at the foyer—a newly carved-out space made possible by purchasing the recess area outside the flat. Here, bold patterns and rich tones set the stage, proving that high drama belongs in small spaces. Loose furniture, rather than fixed carpentry, introduces patina, heritage, and soul.
The living area unfurls like a serene tea pavilion. A vivid Chinoiserie rug grounds the room, anchoring a mix of antique Chinese forms and clean-lined Mid-Century silhouettes. An arched wall panel, lined with wallpaper evoking Peranakan intricacy, becomes a quiet nod to the region’s layered cultural past.
Long banquette seating beneath the windows invites communal dining and conversation, while offering storage and softness. Above, a contemporary take on the lotus chandelier glows like a sculptural bloom—ethereal and grounded all at once. The dining furniture, chosen for clarity and modernity, keeps the space light, lifted, and livable.
The dry kitchen, in contrast, leans moody and sultry. A custom island—anchored by oversized turned legs—sits like an heirloom centerpiece, topped with richly veined stone. Upper cabinets glint with antique mirror, echoing light while reducing visual weight. Wallpapered storage walls add surprise, breaking expectations in the most elegant way.
Function folds into beauty at every turn. The common bathroom was reconfigured into a laundry area and a guest powder room—each discreet, each detailed. In the powder room, a bold wallpaper sets the tone while an antique Chinese cabinet, repurposed as a vanity, becomes a work of art in itself.
Tucked into a quiet corner, the media room continues the Indochine story with another arched feature and layered textures. A hidden jib door preserves symmetry and mystery, seamlessly leading into the private realm.
By merging two bedrooms, the principal suite unfolds as a calm and character-filled retreat. Old Chinese doors—framed with colored glass and backed with mirror—serve as a luminous headboard wall. A sliding door fashioned from two antique panels leads into the dressing room, where art and utility coexist in a tapestry of personal expression.
The ensuite bath is a celebration of materiality. Tiles in varied patterns meet fibreglass walls in clean contrast, directing attention to statement pieces like the repurposed antique vanity. It’s a composition of bold accents, softened edges, and storied layers.
Completed in January 2024, North Bridge Road is a visual symphony—opulent, personal, and rich with narrative. A dialogue between designer and homeowner, it exemplifies the magic of merging cultural history with architectural inventiveness. Every corner hums with detail. Every material speaks. This is not just a home—it’s a living memoir.

Pasir Ris
Set within a tranquil HDB maisonette in Pasir Ris, this residence unfolds like a beautifully aged novel—its pages filled with whispers of late Victorian elegance, Eastern influence, and the quiet power of craftsmanship. Designed by Arjan Nijen Twilhaar of Aiden T, the home is a richly textured tribute to the colonial merchants’ residences of the past: part Arts and Crafts, part Far East fantasia, and entirely bespoke.
At the heart of this transformation was a desire to marry heritage with function—an aesthetic dream woven together with practical threads for multigenerational living. The original floorplan, dark and compartmentalized, was reimagined entirely. Walls were reoriented, spaces opened, and a gracious circulation spine introduced to serve both privacy and connection.
The journey begins in a stately foyer—more than a passageway, it’s a stage. Here, old-world hospitality and contemporary living blend, setting the tone for the home’s theatrical yet grounded spirit. This central axis connects the private and public zones of the home, designed equally for flow and celebration.
In the living room, heritage finds its footing in solid hardwood floors, bordered with custom-cut marble skirting—a thoughtful juxtaposition of rawness and refinement. A hand-carved timber screen, positioned to flank the windows, cleverly reframes the classic half-window layout typical of older HDBs. The result? A graceful illusion of full-height French doors opening onto an imagined verandah. Seed-pearl trimmed curtains shimmer in the light, while each furnishing—a mix of custom-built pieces and sourced treasures—tells its own story.
At the core of the home lies the dining room—a space deliberately detached from screens and distractions. Designed for spirited gatherings and long dinners, the room is encased in warmth and intention. A custom-carved mirror wall expands and illuminates, while the furniture, rug, and lotus-like chandelier were all designed to measure, composed like a symphony. Above, a wallpapered ceiling adds shimmer and texture—an often-forgotten plane transformed into a jewel-like fifth wall. Embroidered silk drapes wrap the room in colour and delicacy.
The kitchen, though compact, is exacting in detail and deeply efficient. Split into two zones—prep and wash—it channels Victorian sensibility through tessellated floors and a centered range cooker that grounds the room. Cabinets are tailored with restraint: just enough detail to evoke character, but never overwhelm. Behind the surfaces, clever integrations hide dishwashers, deep sinks, and storage that works as hard as it looks good.
In a room that pays homage to the legacy of William Morris, the home office is a tactile sanctuary of craft. Here, Morris wallpaper dances across the walls while matching curtains, complete with pelmets, wrap the windows in pattern-on-pattern harmony. Pressed tin ceiling panels create a coffered-like effect, adding visual height and architectural intrigue.
Furniture—part antique, part atelier-made—anchors the room. A Morris-inspired rug, custom-designed to reflect the palette and pattern language of the space, ties every element together in a gesture that is as romantic as it is rigorous.
Colonial Arts & Craft at Pasir Ris, completed in 2024, is a celebration of ornament, restraint, and deep respect for design heritage. It proves that even within public housing, soul, craft, and character can be layered with the elegance of a private estate. This home doesn’t just echo history—it sings it, room by room.

Waterview
At Waterview, a once-conventional condominium is quietly reborn—a soulful reawakening that balances modern luxe with mindful sustainability. Designed by Arjan Nijen Twilhaar of Aiden T, this three-bedroom home is a study in refined restraint and thoughtful renewal. Every surface speaks of intention. Every shift in light or line tells a story of transformation.
Faced with the decision to move or reinvent, the homeowners chose legacy over relocation—remapping their family’s home into a space that could evolve with them. The design brief was clear: elevate the everyday while honouring the planet. The result is a luminous, layered interior where utility and beauty live in harmony.
The entry sequence sets the tone: veined marble tiles stretch across the floor and climb into the skirting and cased openings, creating a grounded elegance that flows like a visual ribbon. Carpentry is kept low and linear, allowing volumes to breathe and sightlines to remain uninterrupted.
To open up the heart of the home, structural boundaries were redefined. A former bedroom and part of the original kitchen were annexed to expand the living area—now reimagined with a gourmet kitchen, a generous island, and a newly introduced dining area. Walls dissolved, and in their place: light. Additional windows now frame views of the nearby reservoir and park, pouring daylight into what once felt closed.
Materiality takes center stage, with deep neutral tones lending quiet strength. Texture reigns—lime-washed walls gently absorb light while eliminating the need for constant upkeep. The dining table, a sculptural centerpiece crafted entirely from recycled aluminium cans, embodies the home’s commitment to eco-conscious design. Surrounding furniture pieces echo this ethos—made from natural, durable materials chosen for longevity, not trend.
In the service areas, form follows function. The yard becomes a wet kitchen—tailored for heavy-duty cooking and outfitted with a dedicated laundry zone. Every square metre is maximized, without sacrificing aesthetics.
The private realm tells a quieter story of comfort. In the primary suite, a wall was shifted to reposition the bed toward the view—an intentional decision that reframes mornings with light and landscape. A compact workstation was introduced, along with extra storage and a subtly enlarged bathroom that now feels more fluid and considered.
In the boys’ shared bedroom, functionality is the focus. More wardrobe space and a custom-built desk carve out dedicated zones for schoolwork and storage—growing with the children while preserving the elegance of the overall palette.
Throughout, the canvas remains timeless: neutral, textural, and grounded. Art becomes the accent—punctuating walls with personal meaning and vivid restraint.
Completed in March 2024, Waterview is a meditation on modern living. It proves that sustainability need not compromise sophistication, and that legacy homes can be thoughtfully, beautifully reimagined for the future.
